Sick of hearing the phrase "playing the race card", I decided to turn it into a literal card you can play. The result: a new, satirical card game where the 'suits' are based on antiquated concepts of race: White, Yellow, Brown and Black.

The design uses simple, iconic faces, with elements changing around them depicting familiar racial stereotypes from European, Asian, African, Polynesian and other ethnicities.

The game is a fun but effective way of illustrating the absurdity of the phrase "playing the race card".

It won silver in the New Zealand Best Design Awards 2011

Honky! The Race Card Game – now you can really play the race card.
